Sporting Alavés, commonly known as Alavés, is a Spanish football club based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country. Founded in 1921, the club has a long and storied history in Spanish football.

The Early Years

Alavés spent the early part of its history playing in the lower divisions of Spanish football. However, in 1930, the club made its debut in the top flight, known as La Liga.

The 1950s and 1960s were a golden era for Alavés. The club won the Copa del Rey, Spain's national cup competition, in 1954 and 1960. It also made its first appearance in a European competition, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, in 1962.
