Oman Weather Flooding

Deadly Floods Ravage Oman, Claiming 17 Lives

Unrelenting Rain Batters Gulf Region

Rescue Operations Underway, Disruptions Reported

At least 17 people have tragically lost their lives in flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall across Oman since Sunday, according to the country's National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM). The relentless deluge of rain has also severely impacted the United Arab Emirates, causing numerous delays and disruptions.

In response to the devastating weather conditions, Oman's Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) has initiated extensive rescue operations. The CDAA has successfully evacuated over 1,300 individuals from affected areas, including children and individuals trapped by rising floodwaters.

The heavy rainfall has also caused widespread damage to infrastructure and property. Roads have been inundated, bridges have been swept away, and buildings have been damaged. Travel has been significantly disrupted, with flights into Dubai International Airport temporarily diverted due to severe weather conditions.

The Oman Observer reported that 10 children aged 10 to 15 tragically drowned after their school bus was swept away by the floodwaters. The incident highlights the immense danger posed by flash floods and the need for caution during severe weather events.

Emergency crews continue to work tirelessly to rescue those affected and provide assistance to the communities impacted by the floods. The NCEM urges residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
